About

VP of Domestic Affairs

That is the title I have given myself for the role I play at Thomas Inc. I never liked the term “housewife” as it sounds so 1950ish or “SAHM”–because there is so much more that I do.  Also, my life took an unexpted turn (a good one, I suppose) off the road I planned to take.

I am a wife, mother, friend, daughter. I do the shopping, meal planning, cooking. I clean (although not very well). Laundry is my nemisis. I’m a taxi service. I schedule playdates, date-nights, service calls, after school activities, doctor visits, vet visits, vacations. I do all the travel planning–I’m good at that and I love doing it! I decorate and shop for the house. You know..those little details that make a house a home.  I play nurse, mediator, homework helper. I play accountant by managing the bills and the checkbook. I handle telemarketers.

I’m sure there are many more things on my list. My title requires me to be on-call 24/7, 365 days a year, although I do manage to get a few days off here and there. Sick time is a minimum.

According to salary.com, I should be making approx. $116,000 per year. That sounds about what a VP of Domestic Affairs should make. (snicker, snicker). Although I don’t directly pocket that, there is job security. And each year I seem to get more and more “mommy days off” which is nice!

Several people have asked why I’m not CEO. I reserve that for the big-guy who brings home the big bucks. But I do hold veto power. ;>)

  1. How do I join this awesome blog?

Most likely being the most advanced aged person reading – I have years of experience in exactly what NOT to do. Never take my advice! (I don’t always follow my OWN advice.) I just like to talk!

Anita – I think you are an AWESOME VP of Domestic Affairs – LOVE the title. You have a beautiful family – and your three boys are my favs – after my son, of course.

Idea – (or not!) why not let the boys build their own Lego birthday cakes with real Legos. They are boys – they will LOVE destroying those cakes – and very little mess. Well – no gooey mess!

    Love you!
    =:)
